WATTA TEMPURA!

Tokyo Tokyo took me fishing at Trinoma for it's 24th birthday. why would i fish at Trinoma? but instead of fish, i caught large tiger prawns and i mean LARGE that they are so big, i took pictures of them. guess what, they even have names! one is named PRAWNis Hilton, lurking at the halls of Trinoma, sipping her frappe, and carrying a lot of luggage with her. the other is the very athletic, LePRAWN James, doing his basketball stuff and other huge activities. and what are these? commercial that are making a hit?!

it's good that Tokyo Tokyo and i caught them and immediately dip them into a batter, Tokyo Tokyo's secret recipe by the way, and deep fried them. now imagine i ate 2 large prawns, crispy on the outside and soft, chewy and yummy on the inside!

because Tokyo Tokyo is the leading Japanese fastfood chain in the country, it's best that it owns the tempura segment. adding that an incredible mix that will make the tempura a sure hit!

a funny name for a food store

CHIC-BOY: (tsik-boy) derived from Pinoy slang "chickboy" which means a playboy; or a man who surrounds himself with a lot of women for fun. but in this case, it is the name of a food store selling grilled pork and chicken located at JP Rizal st, Malanday, Marikina City.

i haven't had a chance to go nearby the store but i have taken the advantage to take this picture to share with you all. next time that i come back, i'll be trying out their food.

Kainan sa Nayon: Sanitary Check

i was craving for Filipino food and i've glanced to Kainan sa Nayon located at SM Makati Food Court. i've been looking around and no doubt i see other better food chains that offer big, satisfying meals for my dinner. but for no reason i happen to stop there and ordered my food.

as i am waiting for my turn to be entertained, i observed the whole stall. yeah, it's bright, inviting, very appropriate Filipino setting. and the food is displayed in front of you telling, "Eat me!" a very wide variety of choices. the food is served hot, or either reheated for it was there staying... the whole day. i remember another customer who ordered Nilagang Baka (Poached Beef) noticed that the lady only put the soup on top of raw vegetables and haven't undergone proper reheating. immediately, the vendor went to the kitchen (which is seen from the counter) and reheated the food properly. it's nice that they've taken responsibility.

as i began taking pictures for everything that i post here, i haven't noticed till today that a ladle was swimming on the Guinataang Gulay. good thing that i never ordered that dish even if comes with a combo.

and with what are you going to pick it up? your BARE HANDS? i'm not really sure if you're sticking with your sanitary permits but you better be careful with what you serve your customers. oh, i think, WE should be the ones careful with what you serve!

the new SM Cubao Supermarket

the newly-renovated SM Cubao has got even better! a lot of modifications and improvements have been made from top to bottom. the tradition of bringing it all together in one place has made SM number one for shoppers.

SM Cubao has only been known for a department store with a food court at the basement with a little amusement of kiddie rides and an appliance center sharing the space. within the renovation, it has become more shopper-friendly with its new additions like a cybercenter and a supermarket located at the basement replacing the old, noisy foodcourt.

like other SM supermarkets, there's a variety of choices from food and other things that will satisfy your needs and necessities. they also have provided mini-carts if you're buying small volumes.

SM Cubao is located at Araneta Center, Quezon City.

Bizu Bloggers Afternoon Tea Party

Bizu Patisserie again invited bloggers to a refreshing afternoon. now they served their SUMMER MENU starting off with an afternoon tea. the warm hospitality of Bizu was held at their Promenade Greenhills branch at 4-6PM.

a great English tea came along with Mushroom Duxelle in Vol-au-Vent, Salmon with Dill Pistachio Mousseline on Pate Brisee, Caramelized Apples with Brie on Croute, Petit Croque Monsieur and Petit Herbed Chicken Feta in Ciabatta.

their classic scones served fresh and yummy when you add Strawberry Balsamic Jam, Chantilly Cream or Whipped Butter. a bite of Madeleines and temptating sweets like Macarons de Paris, Chocolate Truffles, an Opera Cake or a Mango Chiboust help increase your sugar rush.

but the stars of the afternoon are Bizu's SUMMER SORBETS that come in set when you order for only P285+. first served to us is the Passionfruit and Mango Sorbet with passionfruit seeds to give that little texture that don't disturb your enjoyment with the sorbet. tangy taste for Lemon and Ginger reinforcing your resistance to summer sickness as your mothers would probably concoct. sweet Lychee and Vanilla and Raspberry and Merlot beating the heat. and Apple and Mint for that clean and fresh mouth feeling.

the Yoga Cake, as we could call it, doesn't really have to do with yoga. the name is taken by Bizu as it has the best recall to costumers. this cake combines passionrfruit, yogurt and lemon curd custard placed in between layers of moist sable and genoise sponge. the Yin-Yang principle is followed: the balance of strong flavors but lightness of tropical fruits that will surely lighten the summer.

a Starbucks afternoon

i had an iced caramel macchiato. i usually order java chip frappuccino blends but this time i want a cold, energizing drink. my senses awaken, really.

second pic is for my officemates, and an extra one for the boss. (wink)

Mom's Recipe: Peach Float

this is another holiday dessert. i have made variations of this using fruit cocktails or any fruit like mangoes or kiwis. and it's very easy to make. it's like a tiramisu minus the rum and the ingredients are easy to find in the supermarket:

photo from moogs' flickr
1 pack graham crackers (some use cookies too!)
1 pack crushed grahams
1 can of peach halves, sliced thinly
1 large can of condensed milk
2 packs, all-purpose cream
to make the Peach Float:
  1. combine condensed milk and all-purpose cream.
  2. in your container, spread your mixture to cover the whole area. then lay graham crackers on top of the cream. another spread of the cream and then your peach slices. on top is another covering of cream then repeat it with the graham crackers and peaches. fill spaces with crushed grahams until all ingredients are in. be sure to end it with a layer of cream and peach slices.
  3. place it in the freezer overnight.

the halo-halo

everybody knows what a halo-halo is. it is a combination of fruits slices, sweet beans and other sweet stuff topped with ice shavings, leche flan and ube. adding evaporated milk will make it creamier.

the Filipinos always have a way of making their own halo-halo. expect it when summer comes, halo-halo businesses compete against each other in every street. but no matter how many ingredients you add on your halo-halo, you only have one thing in mind: to beat up the heat and get your tummy full.

i have been hearing a lot of things about this Razon's of Guagua's halo-halo. as i've known, this halo-halo doesn't have that much ingredients: macapuno and banana trimmings. a dash of cow's milk and top with leche flan then you're done! in one interview of the owner, it was noted from the grandmother's recipe that as you add more and more ingredients, the taste is compromised. a regular razon's halo halo costs Php 70. enjoy razon's halo halo at these branches.

there's DigMan which boasts about "sandosenang halo, sandosenang sarap". meaning 12 colorful and tasteful ingredients under the ice. generous scoops of beans, kaong, nata de coco, gulaman, langka, sago, rice crispies, topped with ube and leche flan is really mouth-watering.

the Chowking halo-halo impressed us all when they added scoops of ice cream on top that made it extra special.

nowadays, halo-halo comes in glass jars. you don't have to roam around the market buying bulky servings of halo halo ingredients. all you have to do is go to the supermarket and grab a jar then add ice and milk.

CaliMak from Jumbo Japs

the first time i tried eating sushi, i really loved it. especially when i added wasabe to japanese soy sauce. it's a great thing that there's a good food chain at Gateway Mall named Jumbo Japs that offers sushi, sashimi and gyudon meals that will satisfy my japanese cravings. like some food chains, Jumbo Japs presents a show on how to prepare my favorite California Maki.

in order to prepare the CaliMak you need:
1 cup cooked sushi rice
mango and cucumber - 1/4 inch julienne slices
crab sticks
seaweed nori
crab eggs
japanese mayonnaise
Directions:
  1. on your seaweed nori, spread cooked sushi rice upto the edges. then turn it upside down.
  2. then lay out crab sticks, mango and cucumber with a dash of japanese mayonnaise.
  3. roll up the ingredients with your bamboo mat and make sure that it's secure and no ingredients are coming out. spread the tiny crab eggs at the rice covering.
  4. serve with wasabe and kikkoman soy sauce.
Jumbo Japs' service is fast and indeed very entertaining. you won't worry about hygiene because it is health inspected and the staff are in proper serving attire.
