Celebrating birthday in time of Covid 19

How's everyone? It took a long time for me to post another entry in my food blog. By the way, I'm celebrating my birthday today. As much as I wanted to spend it outside, strolling in the mall or watching a movie, I just can't, we all can't. But then, I should not miss this day without great food to celebrate.

Food deliveries have been very essential since we started the quarantine period. Aren't we all just glad that they were able to pull this through with all the limitations we're experiencing today? I'm also glad that one of my favorite caterers 8 Spoons is available to serve us. For today, I ordered a variety of food, personal choices from their menu. We're only 4 people at home, and regular sized trays would be too much for us. 8 Spoons is offering XS party trays that are good for up to 4 persons.

Grilled Chicken Teriyaki - Tender chicken drenched in teriyaki sauce with extra buttered vegetables
Japonaise Cordon Bleu - Chicken cordon bleu with ham and nori drizzled with kewpie
Korean Chapchae - To satisfy my Korean cravings, I've been watching a lot of KDramas lately
Vietnamese Spring Rolls - This was finished early because everybody loves "lumpia"
I ordered these in advance and they were very accommodating. It even reached dinner when we had it for lunch. Since they are freshly cooked, they are still warm and good to eat. The trays are very affordable too. Right now, transactions are made through online deposits to ensure your safety.

8 Spoons Party Trays can be picked up and delivered from their kitchen in Quezon City to your home via Grab or Lalamove, serving only within Metro Manila and nearby areas. Right now, they are also offering frozen items and family set meals which can help you plan your meals in the future.

Met the new king in Korean barbecue - SamgyupKing

While everybody is busy getting their carts full for 11.11, I met with a few friends and checked out a new Korean barbecue restaurant in Quezon City. I don't go much to Fisher Mall and it's quite a treat to be able to try out SamgyupKing which offers not just the usual Korean barbecue fares but they have some Filipino street food favorites that would lure you in to try.
Located at the 4th floor of Fisher Mall in Quezon Ave, near the cinema area, SamgyupKing is quite spacious and help yourself with their refreshing milk teas before you decide on what to get for your table at the buffet area.
They had pork, beef, and sausages. As I've mentioned, they have Filipino street food so expect some isaw, sliced pork intestine, and pig skin. Feel free to fill your bamboo tray with all the flavorful skewers of your selection before you cook them at their unique mechanical grill.
They also have galbi pork and chicken and on the other counter if you want to do it traditional with your tongs or chopsticks.
Banchan is also quite easy to reach. I had my favorite baby potatoes and kimchi that makes my samgyup meal complete with a dollop of gojuchang and rice rolled into fresh lettuce for that scrumptious bite.

Did I mention that it is only P499 per head? Quite reasonable for an unlimited samgyup-party that is perfect to enjoy with your family or friends. It is open during Fisher Mall hours, 11:00am til closing.

What's in my Bibimbowl?

Last night after hearing mass in Ali Mall, Cubao, I asked my mama if we can eat at BonChon since I am craving for bibimbap. So we went there and I immediately ordered 2 Bibimbowls, had to make both of them different so we our tastebuds can sense different tastes.

I was having a Taco Bibimbowl and she had Seafood Bibimbowl. Taco Bibimbowl is new to me and still have to give in to my craving. When it arrived, I was surprised on what it has on the toppings:
Taco Bibimbowl
Literally, someone pulled out some chips from a pack and crushed it before placing it on top of the rice. Then added salsa, red beans and the glazed fish pops with it. They tried to give that "crunch" with the corn chips. After all, what's a taco without tortilla shells?

While as for my mom, she liked her Seafood Bibimbowl. I also liked it because of the nori strips. They might have added more Gojuchang with it that boosted the flavor. Gojuchang is now my favorite condiment.
Seafood Bibimbowl
Here are all the Bibimbowls you can order in BonChon for only Php 99.

I noticed that the branch didn't follow their SOP. Instead of beef in my taco bibimbowl, they put glazed fish pops. It's also sad that their serving in Shopwise Cubao easily gets cold. I think they are rushing to closing time since it was already about 8pm. Some of the items were also no longer available. I tried to order Japchae soup but no luck.

HOLDAK: falling in love with real Korean chicken

it was a traditional story of a passionate foodie of bringing in his favorite dish in his hometown. but for Carl Tan, President of Holdak Philippines, his story is not just about passion for food but falling in love with it. in his business venture, Holdak, he shares his story of how he brought home a piece of what he loves and he also shares the moments of being in love with his favorite chicken dish.
Holdak, from a Korean phrase "Holdak ban hada" which means "to fall deeply and madly in love with something" and Dak in Hangul dialect which means chicken. so it's a play on words of "falling madly in love with chicken." in his special invitation, i really now understand why he is in love.

started just last January 2013, Holdak first opened at the foot of Mezza residences in Manila where people pass by. thus, the willingness of Carl Tan to share and spread his happiness to the passers by and even visitors make it standing in store today. he first tasted Holdak in a chilly night in Beijing and finding out it's franchising terms even encouraged him to bring it here. how excited is he reminiscing back memories of watching a movie in Beijing with friends eating Holdak chicken on their laps.

the restaurant is easy to find on its location. the chicken head icon makes its mark on the glass window of the restaurant. of course, you'll never get confused with its orange appeal. a very inviting atmosphere and cozy interior for everyone.
his chicken party became more livelier when courses of Holdak chicken is being served on the tables. 4 different flavors to choose from: Yang-Nyam, Spicy Yang-Nyam, Padak and Jack Daniels. all dishes are well-done boneless chicken thighs with a crispy breading. the different flavors will satisfy your palates with different heat intensities and sweetness. my personal favorite is the Padak chicken which has to be eaten with spring onions. a little bite with chili for that satisfying kick.

Padak
other than these yummy chicken dishes, you can also try other specialties like their Regular and Cheese Ramen, the Curry Fries (another ) and their salad. all perfectly complement the taste of their chickens and you will not get used to the taste.

soon, Holdak Chicken will be available thru delivery in a 5-kilometer radius from its position. you can call 354-2195 for a minimum order of Php 250. you can also take home a box of 6 (single-flavor) or 12 (2 flavors) for a very reasonable but affordable price.
